Building a New Online Web Presence for the New Year: Elevate Your Digital Footprint with CAN Web Management

Every January, somebody stands in their shop with a cup of coffee, pulls up their own website, and admits what they've known since spring: it's embarrassing. The hours are wrong. The photos are ancient. The newest thing on the site is a holiday greeting from two owners ago.

A new year won't fix any of that. But it's a decent excuse to finally deal with it, and most of us need the excuse.

People check you out before they call

Before anyone picks up the phone, they look you up. They search your name, skim your site, glance at your reviews, and decide in about the time it takes to pour a coffee whether you look like someone worth calling.

Here's the part that stings: you have an online presence whether you tend it or not. An outdated site, a wrong phone number, an empty Google listing. All of that is saying something about you. It's just not saying what you'd want.

What's actually worth doing

You don't need everything the internet is selling you. You need a short list, done right:

Social media, email, ads: all fine, all optional, and all pointless if the four things above are broken. Fix the foundation first.

Don't try to do it in one weekend

The classic January move is to fix three years of neglect in one heroic burst, burn out by Groundhog Day, and let it all rot until next January. Skip that. Pick one thing a month. Update the photos in January. Rewrite the services page in February. By summer you'll have a site you're not apologizing for.

Or hand it to someone who does this every day, the same way your customers hand their problems to you. Nobody expects you to run your own website, any more than you'd expect your accountant to shingle a roof.

That's the work we do at CAN Web Management: building and running websites for Delaware small businesses, in plain English, without the pitch. If your site made this year's "for real this time" list, get in touch and tell us what's going on. You'll get a straight answer back, usually the same day.
