Reporting

The monthly website report

Every site we manage gets one email on the first of the month. It says whether the site stayed up, what we updated, what we had to undo, and what needs nothing from you. This is what it looks like.

The sample below uses illustrative figures. Your report carries your site's own numbers, read from our monitoring and update logs.

Checks this month

We checked the site 8,640 times this month. It was unreachable for 52 minutes in total, across one incident, and answered every other check.

Downtime

09/11, 3:15 am to 4:07 am52 minthe hosting server did not answer for a few minutes, then recovered on its own

Software updates

6 software updates applied, each one checked live afterwards so nothing broke. Keeping plugins current is the single biggest thing that keeps a WordPress site from being hacked.

09/02: page builder 4.2.3 to 4.2.4
09/05: contact form 2.0.1 to 2.0.2
09/09: image optimizer 3.8.0 to 3.8.1
09/16: WordPress core 6.9.1 to 6.9.2
09/19: SEO plugin 26.2 to 26.3
09/24: page builder 4.2.4 to 4.2.5

One update caused an error when we tried it, so we put the previous version back within minutes and the site stayed up:

09/12: gallery plugin 5.1.0 to 5.2.0 caused an error on the site, so we put the previous version back within minutes

2 premium plugins on this site cannot be updated automatically. We update those by hand on our schedule and test the site afterwards.

Nothing here needs anything from you. If you want a change made to the site, or something looks off, reply to this email or call and it gets handled.

What each part means

Four things, in plain words

Uptime

Checked every five minutes

We ask your site for its home page every five minutes, all month. The uptime figure is the share of those checks it answered. A full month is 8,640 checks; the number on your report is the real count.

Downtime

Every incident, with a plain reason

Any stretch where the site did not answer is listed with the time, how long it lasted, and what the server said, translated: overloaded, not answering, or an error page. No incidents means the line says so.

Updates

Applied, then tested live

WordPress core, plugins and themes get updated on a schedule. Each update is followed by a live check of the site. The report lists every one by date, from version to version.

Rollbacks

What we had to undo

When an update breaks something, the previous version goes back within minutes and the report says which one and why. Premium plugins that cannot update themselves are done by hand and noted.
